The stalls are open daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. On 27th November from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on 24th December from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and on 25th December with reduced hours.

Sterzing Bell Christmas: tradition with a special sound

When bells ring during the festive season, the unique atmosphere of the “Sterzing Bell Christmas” comes to life. In Sterzing, this magic has become a tradition – gentle bell sounds accompany you through Advent, creating a festive, almost magical mood.
The ‘Sterzing Bell Christmas’ is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in South Tyrol and one of the region’s five original Christmas markets. In the historic centre of Sterzing, you can experience authentic tradition, atmospheric moments and a special connection between history and Advent.

By the way: the Sterzing Bell Christmas has been awarded Green Event status by KlimaLand Südtirol Alto Adige.

Bells always have something to tell us

From the deep, gentle tones of the many church bells around Sterzing, to the bells of the Zwölferturm tower, and the bright jingling of small animal bells – the sound of bells accompanies us throughout the year. That’s why Christmas in Sterzing is dedicated to the ‘Bell Christmas’ – a warm sound that resonates especially deeply during this time.

Zwölferturm tower & carillon: the heart of the Christmas market

At the Zwölferturm tower, the carillon of the traditional Innsbruck company Grassmayr rings out, giving the market its distinctive character – a highlight for all ages. In 2020, a carillon with 25 bells was installed on the tower overlooking the entire town. Daily performances!

Christmas melodies, mulled wine, craftsmanship and quality products

When snow covers the town and the surrounding peaks, Sterzing is wrapped in a warm, festive atmosphere. Strings of lights illuminate the streets of the Alpine town as darkness falls. During Advent, South Tyrol takes on a different rhythm, a special mood that invites you to rediscover traditions and customs. Handmade Advent wreaths and decorations adorn homes, shops and streets. The sweet scent of freshly baked ‘Spitzbuam’, ‘Zelten’ or ‘Stollen’ fills the air alongside the crackling of fireplaces. Meanwhile, children enjoy crafting Christmas decorations, full of anticipation for the festive season.
