Knödel (Dumpling) festival at Sterzing / Vipiteno

Knödel, round dumplings, both savoury and sweet, are among South Tyrol's most popular culinary specialities and take centre stage in this festival taking place at Sterzing in September.

Savoury varieties are usually made from white bread kneaded with other ingredients and include Speck-Knödel, cheese gnocchi, spinach dumplings, while dumplings with apricots in the centre (Marillen-Knödel), strawberry and plum 'Knödel' are among the seductive dessert specialities.
Of course the feasting will accompanied by entertainment including traditional Tyrolean music by local bands.

By car:
Travelling from the north or south, exit the A22 (toll) Brenner motorway at Sterzing.

By rail:
Regionaland local services (not Intercity trains) travelling the main Innsbruck-Verona line stop at Vipiteno/Sterzing ? 2-hourly service, more frequent in rush hours.
